May 18, 2010 - BC Lakeview faces $1.4 Million shortfall... Responding to this, the school board hopes state politicians will come to their rescue so they won't have to lay off some teachers.
Trustee Mark Kreter suggested laying off non-tenured teachers based on performance, rather than seniority. "Maybe you ought to think about letting go that marginal teacher who's in their second year and saving a rising star that just finished their first year," Kreter said. Responding this seemingly sensible question, Assistant Superintendent Steve Skalka said; "tenure laws and teacher contracts would make that difficult." - Is Skalka's response the answer or the problem? Skalka said it would be "difficult". Isn't it the job of highly paid school administrators to resolve "difficult" administrative questions?
The Lakeview teacher contract with the MEA and its' multi-million dollar insurance baby MESSA are up for negotiations this summer. Will the Lakeview Board of Ed find paying an extra Million dollars or more a year for hospitalization benefits too "difficult" to address?

May 17, 2010 - People who represent us in Battle Creek... As a Battle Creek City Commissioner Nancy Macfarlane, “led the charge” to do away with an entry fee into Willard Beach. Now Nancy is defends her action as a city commissioner against those who say it is not safe there anymore. Last Summer police had to be called to the beach 84 times; that’s pretty much every day. This prompted City Manager Ken Tsuchiyama to say; "We have to find a way to make sure those who do go out to Willard Beach have a safe experience," My wife and I talked to a sales associate at a store located in the mall. She said; “I no longer feel comfortable going to Willard Beach because I don’t feel safe there and because of all of the trash; dirty diapers and that kind of stuff.”
In a May 17, 2010, article in the Battle Creek Enquirer Nancy says; "It only takes a few people leaving the commission and -- bang -- the community goes backwards," -- If “backwards” is charging a fee that will encourage “bad actors” to stay away, or at least pay for a police presence to protect law abiding visitors, shouldn’t a reasoned thinking city commissioner agree?
While she said she's witnessed some issues there, she believed the park was safe; saying; “I would venture there's more criminal activity in other parts of the city. I'd venture there's more theft at Lakeview Square Mall.” – If Nancy’s goal is to raise the crime rate at Willard Beach to the levels of, as Nancy says, “other parts of the city” and “Lakeview Square Mall”, then she is obviously being successful.
She also said she believes the push to bring back the fee was not really about needing money to oversee the park, but instead was meant to keep [some people] away. – If Nancy infers that [most] Willard Beach neighbors and visitors to the Beach want “bad actors” to stay away, she hit it right on the head. If she is injecting a “race-baiting” technique, her tenure as a city commissioner should be questioned.

February 27, 2010 - When will Republicans ever learn? At the Obama Healthcare conference Thursday, February 25, senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee Republican Paul Ryan, presented his view of the Democrat health care bill. He was articulate, presenting facts, figures and opinions that could easily be verified. That is how it went all day; Republicans tried to discuss how they would adjust the bill offered, the Democrats responding with immature condescension and emotion, offering no semblance of positive interaction in any manner.
As an example of this Democrat behavior, President Obama scheduled Congressman Xavier Becerra, also senior member of the Committee on Ways and Means, to follow Ryan. In a perfect world where two sides [want] to resolve differences of opinion, this makes sense; Becerra, also on the same committee as Ryan, would respond to Ryan’s remarks and observers would decide the credibility of the two points of view. However, It soon became obvious Becerra had no intention of addressing the content of Ryan’s remarks. The first words out of Becerra’s mouth were designed to create a “false premise”, so to detract from the essence of what Ryan actually said. This tactic of “befuddling taxpayers with B.S.” is typical of Democrats and what is also typical, is the non-response to the tactic by Republicans. Republicans continue to be caught up into responding to the “false argument” created by Democrats instead of focusing on the essence and assumptive reason for Democrats using this tactic.
To the point, Becerra said this; “Paul, you called into question the Congressional Budget office”. Saying this immediately called into question the credibility of Ryan’s entire statement. Ryan interrupted at that point saying; “let me just clarify just to be clear”. Becerra would not let Ryan respond, saying; “let me just finish”… Well, Becerra had no intention of finishing until he completely ran out of breath. To do so would give Ryan the chance to say that Becerra did not understand his words, or he is lying. Certainly Ryan would have been more polite in his response.
What Ryan [actually] said was; “since the Congressional Budget Office cannot score your bill because it doesn’t have sufficient detail…” Becerra continued to use his time distorting Ryan’s comment about the Congressional Budget Office and refusing to let Ryan interrupt so Ryan could put to rest Becerra’s lies, or in Washington parlance, inaccurate representation of the facts. After Becerra was done rambling on, President Obama immediately went on to someone else or rambled on himself, closing any further attempt by Ryan to respond.
Access youtube video of Ryan’s presentation and Becerra’s response and you will see it happen before your eyes. Bottom line, the ploy worked, as it always does, and the idiocy of the day continued; no substance from Democrats, only theater designed to support using reconciliation to ram through Obama’s health care fiasco.
Democrats believe it is OK to lie as long as it’s for the “greater good”(in their minds). Republicans should be making sure the truth is being told for “the good of all”.
