If there is a theme to this year’s election it’s “jobs”! No matter where the conversation begins, it ends with, “jobs”! The article below puts the election in easy terms to understand; The 2006 race for governor is focusing on jobs... Who will create more jobs in Michigan?”

A Granholm spokesperson responds by saying that the Governor agrees that it needs to bechanged”. The spokesperson goes on to say; “she won't cut the tax until there's a plan to replace the lost revenue, $1.9 billion”.

According to the article, “when asked how he would replace the single business tax, [DeVos] declined to endorse any particular plan”.

In business, what happens every time you cut the cost of producing your product and in turn cut the cost of the product to the customer? Right; you sell more product, and by maintaining the profit margin, you beat up the competition and you make more money!

So... In the business of running a state, you keep the cost of operating businesses in your state competitive to other states so that you don't drive business to, to, to, Indiana!. If you don't, you get stuck in the mud; Michigan is stuck in the mud!

Michigan voters need to look at states around them who are doing so much better. Blaming the Michigan economy on a failed auto industry is a nice crutch if you can’t come up with anything better, but it is only a hurdle, not a mile-high fence. Democrats, because of their post-1968 ideology will not, can not, respond effectively; business minded Republicans know the answer and need to shout it out over and over in a way that is clear and simple… There are plenty of examples that give proof to “cutting taxes works every time it’s tried”!

Flash; one hour after I entered this story M-Live has published a story saying Dick DeVos is for getting rid of the SBT.... In the words of a political mentor of mine; yip, yip, yip, yahoo!

The 2006 race for governor is focusing on jobs.

A Republican study shows
Michigan will lose 114,000 jobs under Governor Granholm.

But the Governor's people say it isn't credible, since it was from a contributor to the DeVos campaign.

Still it begs the question, “Who will create more jobs in Michigan?”

Dick DeVos is on the campaign, the campaign for office and to eliminate a taxes he says punishes employers for hiring.

The Republican candidate is critical of Governor Granholm over job losses.

DeVos said, “SBT is critically important to job creation, getting rid of the SBT.”

DeVos insists he has
one answer. The single business tax is a tax on payroll.

Granholm agrees it needs to be changed. But her spokesperson says she won't cut the tax until there's a plan to replace the lost revenue, $1.9 billion.

Chris DeWitt, a Granholm campaign spokesperson said, “If you don't replace it, you are going to have to cut services like education and public safety.”

Granholm has her own plan for job creation. It's a fund providing financial incentives for jobs, small businesses and manufacturers.
Both sides agree the focus has to be at home.

DeWitt said, “I think most job growth is going to be from businesses we have in the state.”

DeVos said, “The first thing is to keep people here in Michigan, to expand business here.

DeVos says he'd do that through deregulation and restructuring. But when asked how he would replace the single business tax, declined to endorse any particular plan.

DeVos said, “I think they're all good. We can discuss them and I would be happy to be part of that discussion.”
